We are proud to celebrate the success of one of our long-standing tenants, TextNow, as the company recently unveiled a permanent public art installation commemorating an extraordinary achievement: surpassing $1 billion USD in cumulative revenue since its founding in 2009. The unveiling marked not only a major business milestone, but also a celebration of innovation, perseverance, and the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to define the Waterloo Region technology ecosystem.
The sculpture, Équilibre Oblique, created by Québec artist Philippe Pallafray, now stands outside TextNow’s Waterloo headquarters at the David Johnston Research + Technology Park. Featuring a stainless-steel sphere balanced between two weathered steel cubes, the artwork represents the progression from ideas to startups to scaled companies, reflecting the growth journey that has helped make Waterloo one of Canada’s leading innovation hubs.
For The Cora Group, this milestone is especially meaningful because we have had the privilege of supporting TextNow throughout much of its growth story. The company first joined our portfolio as a small team at The Cora Building at 375 Hagey Boulevard. As TextNow expanded, they remained within our portfolio, ultimately growing into their current home at evolv1, Canada’s first Zero Carbon Design certified office building. Watching their journey from startup to a company serving more than 10 million users across the United States has been incredibly rewarding and serves as a powerful example of how innovative companies can grow and thrive right here in Waterloo Region.
We were honoured to play a role in helping bring this special event to life. In addition to assisting with the operational coordination and installation of the sculpture on-site, our team worked alongside TextNow in preparing for the celebration held in The Cora Hub at evolv1. We also proudly sponsored an employee raffle prize and arranged a charcuterie spread from Grazing Daisy for attendees to enjoy while gathering to recognize this remarkable accomplishment.
The event brought together employees, partners, and members of the local business community to celebrate not only TextNow’s success, but also the collaborative and supportive ecosystem that continues to fuel innovation in Waterloo Region. It was inspiring to see so many people come together to recognize a company that has remained committed to the community while achieving success on a global scale.
