Sustainability
Envisioned in collaboration with Sustainable Waterloo Region, EY and the David Johnston Research + Technology Park, evolv1 was constructed in accordance with LEED Platinum principles and is the FIRST Zero Carbon Design Certified building in Canada.
Key sustainability features:
- The building consistently produces more energy than it consumes, reaching over 100% on-site energy generation
- Equipped with both roof-mounted solar panels (around 754 panels) and 1,440 Canadian-made panels over the parking areas
- Features triple-glazed windows, optimized glazing less than 40%, an R-30 wall, and R-40 roof for superior thermal performance
- A deep geothermal well (160 m) pumps about 800 gallons/min (≈3,028 L/min), utilizing ground energy for efficient heating and cooling.
- The atrium features a 40-foot (three-storey) living wall, enhancing indoor air quality, humidity control, and occupant wellbeing.
