evolv1 Recognized for Excellence in Green Building and Climate Leadership with the Premiere CaGBC Zero Carbon Award

Earlier this month our evolv1 team celebrated another milestone on the path to open the doors to Canada’s greenest building in 2018. The Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) has awarded The Cora Group with an award for Excellence in Green Building – Zero Carbon at their Leadership Awards Dinner and Gala on Wednesday, June 6 in Toronto.

The Zero Carbon Award is presented to the team responsible for a new or existing building that demonstrates climate leadership through optimal building performance and innovative carbon reduction strategies. Adrian Conrad, COO of The Cora Group accepted the award that night as the first recipient of this new award category.

“evolv1 was over 4 years in the making – from vision to completion. Our team worked to create something on a scale of complexity that’s never been done before, and it turned out to be simple and replicable,” says Conrad. “I am proud and honoured to accept the award for Excellence in Green Building – Zero Carbon on behalf of the evolv1 team.”

The evolv1 vision is a collaboration between The Cora Group, Stantec, Sustainable Waterloo Region, The David Johnston Research & Technology Park, and anchor tenant EY. The first of its kind in Canada, this 100,000-square foot, multi-tenant office building also recently became the country’s first building to receive Zero Carbon – Design certification from the CaGBC. In addition to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, evolv1 is also Canada’s first commercially-driven, net-positive building – which means it produces more energy than it consumes.
